High Socks Bucko, a registered quarter horse, has been with us since 1988, when we purchased him as a 5-year-old. Bucko competed at many local dressage and hunter/jumper schooling shows; logged many miles on the trails of Colorado, Massachusetts, and Washington states; was ridden on the Thanksgiving day hunt in Massachusetts; hunted elk in the mountains of Colorado; taught dozens of riders, of all ages, to ride, and even worked the cows a little bit. A little girl in Massachusetts passed her first pony club test on him, and a summer riding camp student created a freestyle reining "exhibition," in which he rode Bucko. Bucko truly represents the versatility of the quarter horse breed.
Bucko moved cross country with us three times, and saw more of the USA than most people do in a lifetime. He is now enjoying his retirement with us, and he keeps watch over the younger horses, explaining to them their position in the herd! Horses: take note, you don't want to make Bucko angry!
